Idioms From Weather

Here's a list of idioms that are drawn from weather expressions but convey different messages:
(यह कुछ मुहावरों की सूची है जोकि मौसम संबंधी लगते हैं लेकिन इनका मतलब कुछ और है:)

1. As right as rain: to feel fine and healthy.
(ठीक और तन्दुरुस्त महसूस करना)

E.g. Don't worry about me, I'm as right as rain after my knee operation.
(मेरी चिंता मत करो मैं अपने घुटनों के ऑपरेशन के बाद ठीक महसूस कर रहा हूँ.)

2. Be a breeze: to be very easy to do.
(जो करने में बहुत आसान हो.)

E.g. Our English exam was a breeze. I'm sure I'll score well.
(हमारा अंग्रेज़ी का exam बहुत आसान था. मुझे यकीन है मेरे अच्छे नंबर आएंगे.)

3. Be snowed under: to have so much to do that you are having trouble doing it all.
(जब आपके पास इतना काम हो कि आपको सब कुछ करने में मुश्किल आ रही हो.)

E.g. I'm snowed under right now because two of my colleagues are on holiday.
(मेरे दो सहकर्मी छुट्टी पर गए हैं इसीलिए मुझ पर बहुत बोझ है.)

4. Break the ice: to say or do something to make someone feel relaxed or at ease.
(कुछ ऐसा कहना या करना जिससे किसी की हिचक दूर हो.)

E.g. He offered to get her a drink to help break the ice.
(उनकी हिचक दूर करने के लिए उसने उनसे पुछा यदि वो कुछ पीना चाहती हैं तो.)

5. Calm before the storm: the quiet, peaceful period before a moment of great activity or mayhem.
(तूफान से पहले की शांति)

E.g. The in-laws were about to arrive with their kids so she sat on the sofa with a cup of coffee enjoying the calm before the storm.
(उसके ससुराल वाले अपने बच्चों के साथ आने वाले थे इसीलिए वो सोफे पर बैठ कर आने वाले तूफान से पहले की शांति का मज़ा ले रही थी.)

6. Chase rainbows: trying to achieve something that is not possible or practical
(जब कोई कुछ ऐसा करने की कोशिश करता है जो वे कभी हासिल नहीं कर पाएंगे.)

E.g. I think she's chasing rainbows if she thinks she can get into Oxford given her horrible grades.
(उसके बुरे मार्क्स के बाद यदि वह ये सोच रही है कि वह ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड में जा सकती है तो वह सिर्फ खयाली पुलाव पका रही है.)

7. Come rain or shine: you can depend on someone to be there no matter what or whatever the weather.
(आप किसी पर निर्भर कर सकते हैं चाहे कुछ भी हो)

E.g. I'll be there to help you come rain or shine.
(मैं हमेशा तुम्हारी मदद करने के लिए वहाँ होऊँगी चाहे कुछ भी हो.)

8. Every cloud has a silver lining: There is always something positive to come out of an unpleasant or difficult situation.
(हर बुरी स्तिथि में कुछ अच्छा होता है.)

E.g. I got laid off from work yesterday, but every cloud has a silver lining and now I can spend more time writing my book.
(मुझे कल मेरी नौकरी से निकाल दिया गया लेकिन हर बुरी स्तिथि में कुछ अच्छा होता है और अब मैं अपनी किताब लिखने में और समय बिता सकता हूँ.)

9. Fair-weather friend: a person who is only your friend during good times or when things are going well for you but disappears when things become difficult or you have problems.
(स्वार्थी)

E.g. She was a fair-weather friend who lost interest in me after I had lost my job.
(वह एक स्वार्थी दोस्त है जिसने मुझसे मेरी जॉब छिनने के बाद मुझ में दिलचस्पी दिखना बंद कर दिया.)

10. Get wind of: to learn or hear of something that should be a secret.
(कुछ ऐसा जानना जोकि गुप्त होना चाहिए)

E.g. He got wind of the closure of the company so he started looking for a new job immediately.
(जैसे ही उसने कंपनी बंद होने के बारे में जाना उसने नयी जॉब ढूंढना शुरू कर दिया.)
